The St. Joseph Library operates as a self-serve library, but it is helpful to parishioners if someone is there to assist. We like to have the library open after each weekend Mass. Additionally, we are usually open on Wednesday evenings during choir practice/youth night. We could also expand to other evenings if we had the volunteers.
Library volunteers help in several ways. They help parishioners find items either through the subject catalog, the computer, or visual search. They assist in check out. They help maintain the library by checking in items and shelving. Some volunteers also call people to remind them about overdue items. Others help process donations. Since the library is so visible, we also often direct parishioners and visitors to places such as the church office. More and more people have been using the good resources in the parish library, so more help would be really appreciated.
