During Lent, we return our focus to Prayer, Fasting, and Almsgiving. Items in the parish library can help you enhance your Lenten experience this year and grow in your faith.
PRAYER
The library has several books to help pray the Stations of the Cross. A new one is called Step by Step to Calvary: Praying through the Stations of the Cross by Angela M. Burrin. Published by The Word Among Us, this booklet has beautiful pictures. With each station, a description is given, followed by reflective prayers.
Children pray the stations on a different level, and books are available for them. A dvd video called Stations of the Cross for Children takes the viewer through the stations with Father Stan. The synopsis states, “The primary goal of this video is to help children, ages 7-12, view the stations of the cross as an opportunity to follow Jesus more closely. It emphasizes what children can do today to be more Christlike after reflection on what happened to Jesus at each of his fourteen stops on the way to Calvary.”
REFLECTIONS FOR THE JOURNEY
If you would like a companion for your Lenten Journey, you can choose from several books in the library. One interesting one is called A Lenten Hobo Honeymoon. Join Benedictine priest Edward Hays as he takes you through Lent. You don't have to wait until Ash Wednesday to start though; you can start reading this on the Monday before!
ALSO FOR THE CHILDREN
Special saints’ days during Lent are St. Joseph and St. Patrick. You can check out books about them, as well as a children’s movie about St. Patrick. A book called Lent is for Children has stories, activities and prayers for kids.
