The funds for the pipe organ will be raised separately from the weekly collection. The weekly collection goes towards parish operating expenses and other parish ministries, but it will not go towards the new organ. The funds for the organ will be raised separately and kept in a separate account with the Advancement Foundation.
The Advancement Foundation
is a diocesan “corporation” that holds the assets of our diocese. They allow parishes like ours to open a “savings account” for specific projects, and that is what we have done. The advantage is that the money will never be taxed by the diocese. If we kept the money in our parish account, it would be taxed at the diocesan rate. Furthermore, the funds in the Advancement Foundation are protected from lawsuits against the diocese. The funds cannot be spent on anything other than the organ.
The parish-wide campaign will start in October 2014. You can expect to hear about it during Mass announcements and in direct mailings.
